"A Moment of Stillness" by Lisa M Petyak
Inspired by Frida Kahlo's "Wounded Deer"
24x30 inches
Mixed media and oil original painting on canvas, ready to hang
A Moment of Stillness was inspired by my fascination with Frida Kahlo—her resilience, her ability to transform pain into art, and the way she continued creating through so much adversity.
Inspired by The Wounded Deer, where Frida portrays herself pierced by arrows, I wondered: What if she got a break from all that suffering? Just one quiet, healing moment.
Here, a young deer closes its eyes and lifts its nose toward a monarch butterfly while Frida mirrors its peaceful pose. Hummingbirds, symbols of vitality and resilience, hover nearby, and roses bloom around them—a reminder that softness is strength, too.
A Moment of Stillness is for anyone who needs to remember that healing doesn't always have to be loud. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is simply be still, feel the sun on your face, and let yourself exhale.
There is strength in stillness.
The piece is varnished, wired ready for hanging and is signed on the front and back.
