A visual letter from one artist to another, written more than a century apart.

Dear Vincent, the Sunflowers Still Bloom was created after reading The Letters of Vincent van Gogh and discovering the person behind the paintings—the curious, searching artist who studied nature and color, questioned his work, and continued creating without knowing what his art would one day become.

Woven throughout the painting are small tributes to Vincent’s world: brilliant sunflowers and yellow, almond blossoms inspired by his flowering trees, a giant peacock moth, and a subtle Starry Night swirl hidden within the center of the sunflowers. Each reference is reimagined through Lisa’s own expressive layers of color, texture, mark-making, and mixed media.

The almond blossoms carry an unexpected personal connection. Van Gogh painted his celebrated Almond Blossom in 1890 to mark the birth of his nephew. More than 130 years later, Lisa’s own young nephew helped prepare this canvas before she began painting—a coincidence discovered only after the work was underway.

At its heart, the painting reflects on something Vincent could never have known: how far his work would travel beyond his lifetime or how many artists it would inspire.

Dear Vincent, the Sunflowers Still Bloom is both a tribute and a reminder that while creating, we rarely get to see where our work—or our lives—will lead. We can only continue making, growing, and becoming.

The sunflowers still bloom. And so do we.
