"La Catrina in Blue" mixed media and oil original painting on 24x30 canvas
La Catrina in Blue was inspired by Día de los Muertos and the beautiful way Mexican tradition honors those who came before us—not simply through mourning, but through color, flowers, remembrance, and celebration.
Surrounded by vibrant flowers, La Catrina wears her blue dress with a confidence of her own. Monarch butterflies flutter around her, inspired by their annual migration to Mexico and the belief that they carry the souls of loved ones returning to visit during Día de los Muertos. White butterflies add another symbol of transformation and renewal.
La Catrina in Blue is a celebration of remembrance—a reminder that those we love may leave this life, but the stories, memories, and love they gave us remain.
Some souls never really leave us. 🦋🌹
